I'm about to get my hunting license, and I've got a couple of questions on my mind. First off, do I need to get my firearm licensed too, or can I just bring my "ghost gun" locked up in the car with me? Also, do I need a concealed carry license to go hunting? Just trying to sort it all out.

Youll need your hunting license and any special stamps or tags you might need for what you're hunting. Also if you’re just getting into hunting for the first time, you’ll want to make sure to complete your hunter safety education.

You don’t actually need to register or license your guns for most types of ownership and yes, that includes hunting. But if you’re dealing with a ghost gun. things can get complicated. Right now, MN doesn’t have any strict state laws that outright ban ghost guns, but the feds are a different story. They’re requiring that most ghost gun kits and builds need to be serialized and come with background checks. So if your ghost gun is missing a serial number and didn’t follow federal guidelines, you could be putting yourself at risk just by transporting it, even if it’s all locked up.

I’d definitely recommend giving the MN DNR a call at 1-888-MINNDNR or just check out their website about that unserialized firearm issue. Game wardens take violations pretty seriously, and the last thing you want is to jeopardize your hunting privileges over something that could easily be sorted out with a quick phone call.
