Curious about these thread protectors

Do thread protectors actually serve a purpose, or are they just another unnecessary purchase?

 I used to think they were completely pointless until I ended up dinging a set of threads.

Yeah it's just a cheap little part but it saves you from a really annoying problem down the line.

Thread protectors do have a purpose. They protect the threads from damage when a muzzle device isn’t installed and keep debris out, which matters if you plan to swap devices or use a suppressor later.
