Let’s say you can only have one gun to do it all such as range shooting, defense, hunting, you name it. What would you pick? I’m just curious to see what everyone thinks is the ultimate versatile firearm.

People underestimate what a Glock 10mm can do. It’s not perfect at any one thing but it’s decent at just about everything.

For that matter a .357 is a good choice also. I agree with Alan, a 16 inch AR is hard to beat as an all around weapon. I have shot some deer with one. But I also like a nice CZ .22 rifle that is accurate and useful for small game. That along with a .357 or 9 MM, .40 S&W, 10 MM or similar would be a good choice as well. I think people tend to over estimate the power needed and underestimate the usefulness of smaller calibers. There aren't marauding Grizzly bears everywhere.

The Ruger 10/22 with a decent optic? I stand by that. It’s cheap to feed, legal almost everywhere and fun enough to actually use regularly.

Not a bad choice. I have one. I put a target barrel on it decades ago. I like my bolt action CZ's. better. They are a little more accurate. I shoot matches with them. I don't hunt much with them anymore. Ruger 10/22s are fun and useful and as a rule fairly accurate.
