Hope everyone's having a good time here!

I'd love to know, what’s one hunting mistake you’ll always remember? Maybe it was that moment your scope went busted, or you realized the boots you wore were totally wrong, or perhaps you spooked the game way too soon. I’d love to hear your stories. Let’s swap some lessons and have a good laugh along the way!

You know that feeling when you think you’ve got everything sorted out, but then it all goes south? That was me about five or six years ago during what should have been an absolute walk in the park of a hunt. I had been tracking this buck for weeks on my trail cam. Knew his habits like the back of my hand. Every evening, like clockwork, he’d stroll through this little clearing around the same time.

So there I was, getting out to my spot early one afternoon, feeling pretty pumped about the whole thing. The wind was just right, I had a clear shot lined up. Then, around 5:30, right on cue, I spot him. A gorgeous 9-pointer, just ambling toward me.

He gets to about 70 yards away, steps into the clearing, and that's when I raise my rifle. I glance through the scope and... nothing. I mean, pitch black. It took me a moment to realize, I’d left the scope covers on. Both of them. Front and back.

By the time I frantically yanked them off and looked again, he was just slipping into the trees on the other side. I was just left there, feeling like the biggest fool. All that preparation, all that waiting, and I completely blew it because I forgot to do something so simple.
