I recently bought my first pan and I'm figuring it out. Can anyone share some tips on seasoning and keeping it in good shape?

Unfortunately .....no..... At a time my ...significant other... had a nice selection of family hand down older Canadian made cast iron.... She used these to good success..

I was forbiden to thouch them or only with strict supervision..
Good luck..

The biggest thing I learned is not to be too careful with cast iron pans. I worried too much about seasoning. My pan got way better when I started cooking bacon and other greasy foods and stopped trying to scrub it clean.

I liked them and used them when I camped alone but the missus doesn't and we go together now so that's done.

Treat it right and it lasts forever. Skip seasoning once, and it’ll remind you every breakfast...

Yes.... Even if the ...cooking side.... looks a bit ...unkept... and the stove side looks ...crusty.... that is evidence the cast iron was used on a wood stove with the lid off and the pan directly exposed to the fire... Which is how they were ment to be used.. Tottaly acceptable unless you are going to use the cast iron on a glass top or other more ...delicate.... heat source... That is why some older cast iron has a raised ...ring... on the bottom to fit and seal on the opening of a wood kitchen range instead of a smooth bottom like more modern cast iron has..

I did have several pieces of cast iron cookware I used on my HOBO stove, fire pit or smoker that my ...significant other... would not allow in the house on her ...nice... stove. Which was an acceptable arrangement..

My 5 cents of person experience..
