Wondering what everyone thinks about stashing ramen for emergencies. Not exactly a superfood, but it's cheap, filling, and can last quite a while, right? I've got a few cases tucked away, but how long do they really last past the expiration date? Also, anyone have tips on the best way to store them? Do you guys rotate ramen in your prep stock or have any hacks to make it more versatile in a pinch? Seems like they might outlive their shelf life!

Agree... Ramen can be a useful item to keep in a balaned assortment of ...prepper... items...

In my ....Good Idea, Good Info.... notebook I have a number of ...lists... of food items to stock.. This as well as lists of other ...prepper... items. It is interesting to compare lists. Much will be the same, but you will run across the occasional interesting item on a list that makes you think ....that's a good idea....

Goodness knows that I've eaten my share of Ramen, since I "discovered" it in the 1970s.

"It is what it is," but it's basically sodium and carbs.

For that reason, it tends to be in my "emergency" stash, vs. my daily rotation.

Trivia.... But hopefully useful info....
I've always liked Kraft box mac and cheese... The years I lived in Canada I seemed to aquire a new level of taste for the dish.. Canada consumes more ....Kraft Dinner.... than any other country in the world..

However... Yesterday for the first time I tried the microwave version of ...Kraft Mac & Cheese... All considered I have to rate it as ...very good... But then any version of mac & cheese I always add butter and black pepper.. I am going to keep several packages in my ..snowed in... preperations.

I highly reccommend it...
Facts, details, experience, thoughts ??

@Tim Horton -

I like the microwave Kraft mac & cheese, for a few reasons:
1) quick
2) small serving size
(watching my waistline)
3) nothing needed, except water
(I'll admit to an occasional pat of butter)

I do get frustrated, trying to find the "sweet spot" in my microwave's power level. Quick cook, w/o boiling over.

As the youngsters might say, that's a
"First World problem!"

Trivia... I've got 2 microwaves... A 1000 watt Walmart on sale full size model. And I was given an older, smaller size, 700 watt... Both work well at full power available..

More trivia... When my kids were in college, I used to buy microwaves at garage sales and thrift stores... 4 boys in a dorm room could destroy 2, sometimes 3 microwaves per semester.. 4 girls would only destroy 1 microwave per semester, but it would look as bad as the ones the boys wrecked...
