hey folks, just picked up my first 10/22, and man, I totally get the hype! this thing shoots like a dream right outta the box, but what really hooked me is how much you can customize it. I'm trying to take it slow and not go crazy with upgrades. what are some simple mods you've done that really made it pop or just improved the fun factor? I wanna know what's worth the first upgradin'!

Start with a trigger upgrade, unless you got lucky from the factory.

Volquartsen, TandemKross, Power Custom, Clark, and a host of others can get you set up.

Most folks think a good hammer does the most good, followed by the sear, etc.

Aftermarket hammer kits start at about $35, then the prices go to hundreds for some top of the line complete drop-in trigger groups…

Ruger also sells a "BX" drop-in trigger group for about $60-90, depending upon whether you can find them on sale. They're generally not considered to be the best choice, but they're a quick and dirty option for those who want to improve their trigger in just a few minutes. If you find them on display in a retail setting, you can actually try them out, and select the individual unit that you like best.

It rubs me the wrong way, though… I think that Ruger ought to be including these in their new rifles, vs. selling us crap triggers with the intention that we'll spend big money to upgrade. 🤬

I have been extremely happy with my Ruger BX25 drop in trigger but I'm sure it could improve. I added new spring and charging handle (more of a preference). bolt lock etc are cheaper updates but not always necessary.
If your thinking drop in barrels eventually you will probably have to change stocks/chassis
